Classes & Retreats

New classes with Mike Foley (classroom and online) are scheduled regularly. Check back for the latest offerings.

Starting May 15, Mike Foley will offer the popular online fiction class, Nailing the Essentials, last offered in 2012. Writers can often spend months or even years working on novels and stories, only to get little response from readers. Why? Because no matter how strong the plot, the story can still be weak in one or more of the basic areas. This six-week course will show you how to “nail” the fiction essentials to make your work more readable and marketable. Whether you’re just beginning a story or reworking an existing project, this class is for you. Lessons include:

*** The Reaction: Making Readers Care
*** Who’s Distinctive?: Putting “Meat” on the Viewpoint
*** Seduction: The “Can’t Say No” Opening
*** Your Narrative: Creating the Stage
*** Dialogue Expansion: Hearing the Voices
*** It’s Happening: Weaving the Action

The classes will begin on Monday, May 15. FEE FOR THE SIX-WEEK COURSE--$219 (All Writer’s Edge subscribers and members of CWC-Inland Empire pay only $169—a full $50 discount). You may pay by check or credit card (Visa/MC accepted through PayPal).
